Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. To prepare the caramel, melt sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat while stirring continuously until it reaches a golden amber color. Quickly pour it into a round baking dish and swirl to coat the bottom evenly.
  2. In a blender, combine evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, egg yolks, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the filled baking dish into a larger pan and fill with hot water halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
  5. Allow to cool in the water bath before refrigerating for at least 4 hours. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a plate.
