Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cups unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 TBSP maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 TBSP cinnamon
  • 2 TBSP unsalted butter for brown butter breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup fresh white bread crumb
  • 2 cups powdered sugar for glaze
  • 2 TBSP milk
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup for glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together unsalted butter and 1 ½ cups granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until combined.
  4. Add ground nutmeg, salt, baking powder, and gradually mix in all-purpose flour until fully incorporated.
  5. Shape the dough into ping-pong-sized balls and roll them in a mixture of remaining sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly before placing them on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges. Let cool on sheets for about 10 minutes before transferring to a rack.
  8. Prepare brown butter breadcrumbs by toasting fresh white breadcrumbs in melted butter until golden; mix with cookies after glazing.
  9. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt until smooth; spoon over cooled cookies.
