These golden, crispy Fried Fruit Pies are filled with a sweet, jammy fruit mixture and wrapped in a tender homemade pastry. Lightly dusted with powdered sugar, they’re a comforting treat that can be customized with apples, peaches, cherries, or your favorite fruit filling. Perfect for dessert or a special snack.

Ingredients

For the Dough
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes
½ cup cold water (or more as needed)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

For the Fruit Filling
2 cups fresh or canned fruit (such as apples, peaches, or cherries), chopped
½ cup granulated sugar (adjust depending on fruit sweetness)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

For Frying and Finishing
Vegetable oil or sunflower oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add the chilled butter cubes and cut them into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the cold water and vanilla extract (if using) just until the dough comes together. Add a little more water if needed, one tablespoon at a time.
  • Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the chopped fruit, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice (if using), and cinnamon (if using). Cook for 5–8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into circles (about 4–5 inches in diameter).
  • Spoon 1–2 tablespoons of fruit filling onto one half of each circle, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and press the edges together with a fork to seal.
  • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the pies in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Once slightly cooled, dust with powdered sugar and serve warm or at room temperature.
