Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 4 chicken thighs)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream or coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, balances acidity)
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, and spices. Add chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the marinated chicken until golden brown on both sides; set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté onions until translucent, then add garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  4. Stir in spices and tomato paste; cook briefly before adding crushed tomatoes.
  5. Simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened. Add cream or coconut milk and sugar (if using).
  6. Return chicken to the skillet and simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  7. Serve garnished with cilantro and a squeeze of lemon juice.
