  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese evenly.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until well combined.
  6. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  7. Spoon the dough into the prepared loaf pan in chunky layers for a pull-apart texture.
